Madame Alexander Dolls Make a Great Gift for the Holidays
How do you find what your Madame Alexander doll is worth?
Appraising an Alexander doll is not simple. There is no book, or price
guide that can give you an accurate value for Madame dolls, because
there are so many variables to consider when valuing dolls Madame
Alexander especially.
For instance, in the early years Madame Alexander issued many Little
Women dolls. When Madame Alexander chose a fabric for a particular
Alexander doll style, she often didn't purchase enough fabric to last
for a whole production year. So, Madam would use another fabric or
print that was similar for a shorter production time. They were the
same Alexander doll, but different dolls because those that were issued
with the later fabrics, were limited and rarer; thus more valuable.
A book doesn't advise you that Jo dolls Alexander were mainly in a
red cotton in 1955, but one issue came out in taffeta, and another a
lime green. The Italian girl doll in 1963 had a natural straw hat, but
one issue had a black straw hat, it became a rare and hard to find
vintage Madame Alexander doll. These changes were not documented,
but an Alexander Doll specialist is knowledgeable in these facts.
There are many dolls Madame Alexander made over the years that
look alike. Madame Alexander produced the same designs in many
doll styles between the 1960s and the 1980s, but they were not same
Alexander dolls. There are many different Madame Alexander doll body
molds like the bent knee walkers, also known as BKW, the bent knee
Alexander dolls or BK, and the simple straight leg Alexander doll. The
face molds can be different too, there is the Wendykin, Alex, and the
Mustache molds, to name just a few of the Madame Alexander Doll
faces. The Alexander dolls may look alike to most people, but an expert
can easily distinguish the differences.
The condition of a Madame Alexander must be taken into consideration
when appraising a doll. The highest value is a never removed from box
Alexander Doll. But, just because a Madame Alexander has been kept
in a box, does not mean it is in mint condition. It could have discoloring,
fading, odors, stains, missing accessories, some of these things only a
Madame Alexander doll specialist can identify.
A doll appraiser is the only way to truly calculate a correct value
of dolls Alexander especially. They can advise you what you have
and what the current market value is for your Madame Alexander
doll, as well as what the future expected demand for that doll issue
